Horny Goat closing its brewpub

For the ninth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, dining guides, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as voting for your "Best of Dining 2015."

Owner, Jim Sorenson confirmed by phone this afternoon that he will be closing the bar and restaurant at the Horny Goat Hideaway at 2011 S. 1st St.

The space, which opened in 2009, has been a consistently popular spot for Milwaukeeans to gather during the milder months, thanks to its spacious waterfront patio and tented gathering space, which houses sand volleyball courts, a large screen TV and arcade games.

According to Sorenson, Horny Goat will continue brewing beer; but, the last day for restaurant and bar operations will be Sunday, Oct. 11.

Sorenson did not confirm what will occupy the space once the brewpub is closed.

Please note: Currently scheduled volleyball league games will commence as scheduled, despite the closing. Horny Goat Hideaway posted the following to their Facebook.

Thanks for the memories! It has been a pleasure becoming one of Milwaukee's premier outdoor dining and brewpub...

At 1st I was like, "they want to focus on their awful beer?", then I thought about it. THAT is why they need to focus on their beer, it's awful. Maybe if they spent time working on the beer it wouldn't be so bad. Hopefully they can reopen as a brewery (with tours) w/o server staff and just sell beer. That outdoor space is too beautiful to waste.

Location was beautiful, food and service were ok, beer was the weakest part. But they're going to keep making that?
