The October issue of GQ features a profile of architect Santiago Calatrava, several stunning photos of the Milwaukee Art Museum and reporter Michael Paterniti's account of watching the Calatrava-designed Quadracci Pavilion open.

Paterniti writes, “If you were to fly to the Midwest, swooping low across Lake Michigan to the city of Milwaukee -- its once fabled Schlitz brewery having given way years ago to the hip Alterra coffee shops-you would come upon another structure perched on a shoreline.”

He calls watching the “bird” structure open “a lasting civic moment,” and is truly taken by our city and its kitsch.

The story opens on page 282 with a two-page photo spread of the Milwaukee Art Museum.
