In response to yesterday's Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling which struck down Gov. Tony Evers' "Safer at Home" order, suburban Milwaukee County released its own stay-at-home order and local business guidelines late Wednesday evening, in effect immediately through Thursday, May 21.
The suburban Milwaukee County order is signed by the local health department officers of the following municipalities: Cudahy, Franklin, Greendale, Greenfield, Hales Corners, Oak Creek, North Shore (including Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, Glendale, River Hills, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay), South Milwaukee/St. Francis, Wauwatosa and West Allis/West Milwaukee.
The guidelines include limiting retail establishments, such as indoor shopping malls, to 25 percent of their total occupancy limits or four individuals per 1,000 square feet of customer floor space; keeping restaurants and bars open for takeout or delivery service only, with no consuming food or drink allowed on the premises; and prohibiting gatherings greater than nine individuals.
"We know that the fight to contain COVID-19 is fluid, ever-changing, and ultimately dependent on the widespread availability of a vaccine or treatment," says a statement from the suburban Milwaukee County municipalities. "We also know we are stronger in this fight together, and working together is going to be more critical than ever before. Since Safer at Home is no longer in effect, the 18 municipalities in suburban Milwaukee County and their 10 public health officials came together to sign a local order that provides guidelines on how local businesses can move forward in the coming eight days. Our goal with this order is the same as yours – to reopen as safely and quickly as possible. With this order, the suburban municipalities in Milwaukee County have an order in place to protect the lives and livelihoods of our communities. This order states that bars and restaurants continue to be closed and gatherings of more than nine people are prohibited. We will continue to assess local needs and keep everyone informed."
The entire order for suburban Milwaukee County can be found below. As for the City of Milwaukee, its "Stay at Home" order – originally issued on March 25 – still stands and is still in effect.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
