Milwaukee's best coffee shop, 2017
Season's eatings! The weather may be getting colder, but Dining Month on OnMilwaukee is just cooking up, dishing out your winning picks in this year's Best of Dining poll. Dining Month is brought to you by Fein Brothers, your premier food service equipment and supply dealer in Wisconsin since 1929. Congratulations to all of the winners, and happy eating for all those who voted!
Which coffee is king? Which bean is best? Which cup of joe is no joke? For the second straight year, it's Collective Coffee and its 13 area locations – in addition to its three Madison spots and first Chicago cafe, just opened this past year. And quite handily, yet again, as the Cream City coffee staple scores almost double the votes of the sterling second-place finisher, Anodyne Coffee Roasters. Valentine closely followed in third – but did score the OnMilwaukee editors' pick – with Stone Creek Coffee Roasters and Fuel Cafe filling out the rest of the top five.
OnMilwaukee editors' pick: Valentine Coffee Company
Lori Fredrich's pick: Stone Creek Coffee
Thanks to the nature of my job, I spend a fair amount of time in coffee shops around the city. But, one of my favorite landing spots is the Stone Creek Cafe at the 88Nine Studio in Walker's Point. The chairs are comfortable and the outlets plentiful. But, maybe equally as important are the baristas, who not only know their game, but are exceedingly friendly to boot. They pour a particularly mean cortado, a necessity when I need an afternoon pick-me-up.
