It's time for Dining Month, presented by Deer District and its spooky Halloween-themed alter ego, Fear District. Throughout the month of October, we'll be serving up fun and fascinating content about all things food. The signature dish, however, is our 2019 Best of Dining poll, who's winners we will dish out all month long. Get hungry, Milwaukee! 

Ian's Pizza

The late night eats category has turned into one of the most dramatic parts of our Best of Dining poll. Last year, first and second place were separated by a whole two votes; this year, the margin of victory expanded (to a comparatively colossal 11 votes) but it was a third party coming in to sneak victory from former champions Oakland Gyros and Vanguard.

Indeed, Ian's Pizza, the Wisconsin-based pizza by the slice late night staple, scored its first win in this category, defeating tough competition from the East Side landmark Oakland Gyros and the Bay View sausage savants at Vanguard. Ian's nabbed the win thanks to its number of convenient locations in the city – now with a trio of spots to snag a slice – and, of course, its tasty pizzas, ranging from classic toppings like pepperoni and sausage to unconventional favorites like macaroni and cheese or the drunken ravioli, complete with actual cheese ravioli on the slice. No matter what toppings you choose, however, Ian's will help soak up a strong night on the town.

Oakland Gyros will have to settle for second place – as well as the OnMilwaukee editors' pick – while last year's champ Vanguard snagged a very respectable bronze. Conejito's and Goodkind wrapped up the top five, with the latter also earning Lori Fredrich's coveted pick as her favorite.
