After almost a decade in the Third Ward, Hinterland Erie Street Gastropub – located at 222 E. Erie St. – closed Tuesday night.
"It's been something that we've been looking at for a while," said co-owner Bill Tressler, speaking to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Tressler also noted that, in addition to declining business, the closure was brought on by the company wanting to focus on its newly opened expanded restaurant and brewery in the Titletown entertainment district in Green Bay, where Hinterland is located.
Opening in fall of 2007, Hinterland Erie Street Gastropub spent most of its years in business as a critical darling in the Milwaukee food scene, serving up rustic American fare and beer pairings, and earning multiple honors along the way – including then-chef Dan Van Rite (now of DanDan) being named a nominee for Best Chef in the Midwest in 2011 and 2012.
Stay tuned for OnMilwaukee for updates on the future of the former Hinterland space.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
