Kindred on KK, the restaurant at 2535 S Kinnickinnic Ave., observed its last night of service on Friday, Aug. 24.
The restaurant opened in 2017 inside the same building as the Kinn micro-hotel, offering diners a beautifully appointed environs and a fresh, seasonal menu.
But, according to 0wners Marija and Vesna Madunic, the restaurant did not attract enough business to remain open.
The owners provided the following statement regarding the closing:
"We are sad to announce the closing of Kindred. It has brought us great joy to serve our guests over these last two and ½ years, in an environment that we built and love, and it is the support and happy faces of our customers that fueled our desire to continue to serve every day. However, without enough customers coming through the door, we have made the decision to close our location in Bay View.
"Kindred will close Sunday, Aug. 25. As part of the Gracious Events Corp. family, we will be focusing our resources on Gracious Events | Catering & Event Design, our full service catering and event design company celebrating 23 years in business, the expansion of our floral design division, and Firefly Restaurant & Lounge, our restaurant in the Wauwatosa Village, celebrating 16 years of serving the community.
"We would like to thank the most amazing staff we could possibly ask for. Their undying dedication, positivity, respect and dedication to us and to each other is the thread that held us together as we navigated through the ups and downs of this venture. Truly, we have a family that embodies the "kindred spirit" and for that we are grateful.
"As with all things in life, you win some, you lose some, but hopefully you live and learn with joy and gratitude. That we do, and we look forward to serving you again soon!"
