Home: a simple four-letter word of immense complexity that means both the same and completely different things to all people. Local performance artists Kima and Dasha Kelly Hamilton will explore that small yet mighty word in their upcoming piece "Home," bringing forward ideas about sovereignty, history, community, identity and more to the Marcus Center's fourth floor Rehearsal Hall A tonight at 7 p.m.
Correlating with the 50th anniversary of Milwaukee's Fair Housing March, "Home: An Exploration of Sovereignty, History and Home" is a multimedia celebration of humanity hoping to tie together the many diverse discussions and conversations currently taking place about the city, the neighborhoods and the communities that all share a place in our definition of the word.
Joining Kima and Dasha Kelly Hamilton – the latter an HBO "Def Poetry Jam" alum as well as one of two individuals named Milwaukee Artist of the Year by the City of Milwaukee Arts Board in 2016 – on stage for this show are fellow Milwaukee musicians, artists, spoken word performers, dancers and more including Bennie Higgins, Alexis Luna, B Free, Evan Sandherr, Brian Demetri and Kimi Evelyn.
