Saturday, Jan. 19 is the last day of operation for the Blick Art Supplies East Side shop, 2219 N. Farwell Ave. The Third Ward location across the street from MIAD, 242 E. Menomonee St., will remain open.

According to a Blick employee, the cause of closing is an expiring lease and redevelopment of the building.

Blick Art Materials is a family-owned retail and catalog business that was established by Dick Blick in 1911. It is one of the oldest and largest art materials suppliers in the United States with roughly 65 retail stores, including 11 purchased from The Art Store in 2004, and 45 from Utrecht Art Supply in 2013 (including the Farwell Avenue location).

The chain hires primarily artists and art students.
