Hot Pop to cool it: Third Ward art gallery will close at end of summer
It is with a heavy heart that Margaret Czaplewski announced the closing of Hot Pop, 201 N. Water St., an art gallery and gift/household items shop that opened in 2008.
"After nine years fostering Milwaukee's art scene we can no longer keep our doors open. We have been hit hard by the boom of internet shopping and the amount of redevelopment and construction in the Third Ward the last couple of years," says Czaplewski.
For the first five years, Hop Pop was located in another Third Ward space, 213 N. Broadway, and moved to the current location in 2013.
A store closing sale starts on Monday, July 17 with 40 percent off all items.
On Sunday, Sept. 3 Czaplewski will host a farewell party and art sale "to express our gratitude and undying love for the neighborhood and every artist who supported us along the way."
The event will include beer from Brenner Brewing Co., local vendors and a dance party spun by DJ Jbahr.
"Come say goodbye while we wiggle our butts and shed a few tears," says Czaplewski.
