Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV) has produced an hour-long special featuring the dancing, foods and folk art that has been part of the Holiday Folk Fair – a Milwaukee tradition for more than 70 years.

Recorded at last year's 70th Holiday Folk Fair International, MPTV’s "Folk Fair Celebration" will entertain and inform as it brings the atmosphere of the best international bazaar in Wisconsin to television.

The program will air at 9 p.m. on Monday and rebroadcast at 11:30 p.m. on Channel 10 on Tuesday, and air on MPTV Ch. 36 at 10 a.m. on Nov. 22 and noon on Nov. 23.

Al Durtka, the president and CEO of the International Institute of Wisconsin, which produces Folk Fair, takes viewers on a private tour with behind-the-scenes visits with the exhibitors and artists who make Holiday Folk Fair International such a cherished event.

Other highlights of MPTV’s "Folk Fair Celebration" include dancing of the Ukrainian, Mexican, Serbian and nine other ethnic dance groups; a mouth-watering look at many of the traditional foods served; and a chance to observe the masterful skills of artists as they create the folk art that defines their ethnic heritage.

This year’s Folk Fair runs from Nov. 21 to 23 at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park.

SPECIAL SHOW: The The  featured the United Kingdom's top jive and swing band, "The Jive Aces," at a sold-out show today. The second performance in the Wilson Center’s Matinee Series was headlined by "Britain’s Got Talent" stars, which Simon Cowell once called, "absolutely brilliant.

The audience at "Swingtime: The Jive Aces & The Tinseltown Jitterbugs" were entertained by jitterbug dancing couples grooving to timeless tunes of the swing era and the glitz of the Rat Pack, according to the Wilson Center.

"The Jive Aces," a yellow-suited sextet, has worked with such stars as Van Morrison, John Travolta, Isaac Hayes, Lisa Marie Presley and many others.

Since the 2012 ‘Britain's Got Talent’ appearance, the six-piece band played for audiences at thousands of festivals, theaters and events throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, United States, Japan, Israel, and the Caribbean.

EMMY AWARD: "The Frozen Chosen," a documentary about sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago, took home an Emmy in the category of "cultural documentary" at the Chicago/Midwest Chapter: National Academy of Television Arts awards ceremony. Produced and directed by five-time, Emmy award-winning filmmaker and Wisconsin native, Steve Boettcher, "The Frozen Chosen" has aired extensively on PBS stations in the Midwest, including Milwaukee and Chicago.

"It's an honor to win this award," said Boettcher.  "What I'm really proud of is that this is a Wisconsin story. The Sturgeon Spearing season is a great tradition in our state with great people involved!"

Boettcher spent two spearing seasons following families and sturgeon spearing experts, sometimes braving sub-zero temperatures and thin ice.  He lost two cameras to water and cold, but filmed more than 75 hours of footage to make the one-hour documentary.

Fond du Lac, which bills itself as the "Sturgeon Spearing Capitol of the World," was host to the world premiere of "The Frozen Chosen." Sponsored by the Fond du Lac Visitors Bureau (FACVB), the film was released in February at the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts to kick off the 2014 sturgeon spearing season.

"The sturgeon spearing phenomenon is entirely unique to the Lake Winnebago region," Craig Molitor, president of the FACVB, said in a release.  "This award for Steve is so deserved. It clearly reflects the true family-friendly essence of the sport of sturgeon spearing, capturing the bravery and tenacity of the great folks who live here with real and honest story-telling."
