The temperatures are finally (somewhat) starting to go up, but you know what would really warm things up? Some Summerfest news – and thankfully, the Big Gig obliged this morning, announcing its first headlining act for 2018: pop star Halsey and rapper Logic, who will take the American Family Insurance Amphitheater on Friday, June 29.
Known for her raw voice and even more raw lyrics, Halsey first appeared on the pop scene in 2015 with her debut album, "Badlands," scoring a hit with her single "New Americana." Two years later, she'd impressively build off of that debut with her sophomore effort, "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom," featuring hit songs like "Now or Never" and "Bad at Love."
The singer, however, is probably most known for her collaborations – most notably 2016's "Closer" with EDM duo The Chainsmokers, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a ridiculous 12 weeks. That song, as well as her work as a featured artist on Justin Bieber's album "Purpose," both scored Grammy nominations last year.
Meanwhile, Logic – real name Sir Robert Bryson Hall II – first made his way onto Top 40 radio just this past year, scoring his first international top-10 single as a lead artist with his suicide awareness track "1-800-273-8255" alongside Khalid and Alessia Cara.
Before then, the hip-hop performer built a solid reputation with his mixtapes – most notably 2013's "Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever," which led him to be signed by Def Jam Recordings. His ascent continues into the new year, as he's nominated for two awards at the upcoming Grammys: Best Music Video and Song of the Year, both for "1-800-273-8255."
Tickets for the joint show will go on sale to the public beginning on Friday, Jan. 19, at noon CST at Ticketmaster.com and Summerfest's website. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Summerfest box office in person, at Ticketmaster ticket centers, at select Walmart stores and over phone at either (800) 745-3000 for a live Ticketmaster agent or (866) 448-7849 for the "Ticketmaster Express" automated phone line.
Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for Summerfest announcements coming up – and stay warm. Because with this first bit of Big Gig news, summer is official in sight.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
