The 18-hole playoff wasn't enough.

Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate were tied after 18 Monday at Torrey Pines and headed to the No. 7 tee to start a sudden-death playoff to determine the winner of the 2008 US Open.

Woods, who forced the playoff with an electrifying putt on the final hole Sunday, birdied the final hole Monday, forcing Mediate to make a tense par putt to force the extra session.

Woods then won the title -- his 14th major, third US Open and seventh victory at Torrey Pines -- when he two-putted for par and Mediate missed a par-saving try from 15 feet.
