At the end of April, I reported that Rakesh Rehan was opening a fast-service Indian restaurant at 605 S. 1st St., next door to his liquor store, Fine Vineyard. Turns out, there were a few snafus, but I stopped in on Saturday and Rehan said he is opening on Monday.

Rehan offered me a few dishes to try, and everything I sampled, from a flavorful, tender chicken dish to hot, fresh nan, was very tasty. The meals, none of which are more than $6, are Rehan's family recipes.

I plan to swing by, grab a meal to go and head to the lake for a picnic dinner at some point this summer, but Cafe India has a few tables on-site so eating in is also an option.
