PrideFest – and Pride Month in general – is one of the brightest parts of the year, a time of people of all colors, genders, preferences and passions coming together to celebrate acceptance, awareness and advocacy. And now, with the help of Cranky Al's, this sweet time has gotten even sweeter.
The Alton Brown-approved Tosa donut shop today introduced special Pride donuts for the occasion. Available for preorder or fresh from the case, the $3 tasty treats come in vanilla and chocolate flavors, covered in rainbow sprinkles, rainbow hearts, rainbow candies, rainbow frosting and, in the case of one particular pastry, a baseball bat – because, according to the bakery's pun-rific Facebook post, they "doughnut care what team you bat for."
Best of all, the colorful creations are for a good cause (beyond merely showing support for Pride and making delicious fried foods even more fabulous). Cranky Al's will donate a dollar from every donut sold to Courage MKE, a local nonprofit raising funds and awareness to help LGBTQ+ youth thrive and grow into community leaders – as well as striving to open and sustain The Courage House, a drop-in center for LGBTQ+ youth needing help with mental or physical abuse, support or just a place to temporarily call home.
The only bad news? These donuts will only be around for the next two weeks. So get them while they're hot – and then get on down to PrideFest and the Milwaukee Pride Parade this weekend!
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
