This concert has been a long time coming for me. A band that truly speaks to my soul, The Head and the Heart has been a part of every major transition of my life. Being first row at the Miller Lite Oasis for the first stop on their current tour was just about the best first viewing of this band that I could have asked for.

Being the first stop on their tour, and the fact that their new album just dropped a couple of months ago, they devoted much of their setlist to songs off of "Living Mirage," beginning the show with the title track from that album. 

The Head and the Heart is the type of band that uses little to no transitions between songs, and they don't need them. Their music really speaks for itself, telling stories and evoking the type of emotion that resonates with each listener. "Living Mirage" set the tone for the entire show, followed with another great new track, "Missed Connection."

While much of the set did focus on promoting the band's new music, they were sure to scatter some old favorites throughout the show. They followed the two new songs with "All We Ever Knew" and "Rhythm and Blues" from their 2016 album, "Signs of Light." Other crowd-pleasers included "Another Story," "Lost in My Mind" and "Down in the Valley."

I was happy to hear some other new songs, including "See You Through My Eyes" and "Up Against The Wall," but the amateur beekeeper heart of mine beat for "Honeybee." It was pretty sweet and lovely.

And of course, we couldn't have hoped that they would end the show with any other song than "Rivers and Roads," and that Charity Rose Thielen would slow the chorus down and let every word breathe. 

I'm so glad this Seattle band made it back to The Good Land, and I know it won't be the last time I see them. There is something special in their sound, something so simple and profound. I feel incredibly lucky that I got to see them, and I can't wait until next time!
