The Milwaukee Bucks Milk House is, unsurprisingly (after 29 years in a row) but happily, back at the Wisconsin State Fair this year and as is becoming tradition there is a new flavor on tap.
In addition to chocolate, strawberry, root beer and sea salt caramel, which was launched last year, there is now green mint, too.
Green is the perfect color to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Bucks Milk House – a tradition begun by Herb Kohl – don't you think?
I’ve been an intrepid mixer of Milk House flavors ever since I mixed the chocolate and the banana one year. Sadly, the extremely versatile banana flavor – which also pairs well with strawberry – isn’t available this year, but mint will blend quite nicely with the chocolate and likely with the strawberry, too.
Also worth a blend is sea salt caramel and chocolate, which I meant to try last year but didn’t. So, I get another chance.
As always, the milk is a good deal, too. While it’s not the 25 cents many of us remember, it remains at steal at 50 cents for an 8-ounce cup. Remember to ask for an extra empty cup if you're planning to mix two flavors.
The stand will be near Main Street and South Grandstand Avenue and expect some lines (though they tend to move quickly). Typically, the Milk House sells more than 160,000 cups of the flavored milk, which comes from Prairie Farms Dairy headquartered in Carlinville, Illinois, but which gets milk from farmers in nearly 50 Wisconsin counties.
State Fair opens Thursday and runs through Sunday, Aug. 12.
