A world pandemic might stop traditional state fairs from happening this summer, but it's not going to stop Wisconsinites from getting their favorite fair foods.
The Fair Food Drive-Thru takes place four weekends in a row, Thursday-Sunday, starting Thursday, July 23. Dozens of vendors set up on two miles of the Milwaukee Mile and State Fair Park.
Enter at State Fair Park via Gate 9 located at South 76th Street and West Pierce Street.
Each week, the available drive-thru foods change. Week one features 11 vendor stops including The Big Cheese cheese curds, pork loin sandwiches, Island Noodles, corn dogs, Rick's Pizza – including slices of dill pickle 'za – and more. Cream Puffs will be available the third weekend.
Go here for the full list of vendors selling during the four weekends and printable maps. Drive-thru hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Gates open one hour before the drive-thru begins.
After driving thru the route this afternoon, we realized the experience is about more than the food. The chance to drive on the Milwaukee Mile and through the streets of the Fair grounds, including right past the Giant Slide, was much-needed exposure to festival fun and a reminder that it's still available in the summer of 2020 – just in a different way.
