Yesterday, The InterContinental Milwaukee hotel started taking reservations for the new Pink Room, a project conceived by InterContinental Milwaukee hotel employees affected by breast cancer. The goal is for guests of the two Pink Rooms to be inspired by the design concept, amenities and the stories left on the blog by previous guests.

The project supports the organization, ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis.

The initial idea for the project came from three InterContinental Milwaukee employees' desire to support the fight against breast cancer: Bridget Gallagher, Sarah Geitner and Susan Cusatis.

"After I was diagnosed, a friend suggested ABCD and it was then that I felt like someone really understood what I was going through, so I'm thrilled to be able to give back to this organization," said Cusatis, Marcus Hotels' Milwaukee Business Travel Manager and now an ABCD mentor, who helps others after diagnosis.

Local designer Becky Howley provided design guidance by working hand-in-hand with Gallagher, Geitner and Cusatis to carry the breast cancer awareness theme throughout the rooms. Also, Racine artist Wanakee Pugh, whose work has been featured in the hotel's Gallerie M, was commissioned to create the project's artwork.

"We really wanted this room, with its design theme and artwork, special amenities package and Pink Room Blog to give all those affected by breast cancer a place to share their inspirational stories," said Gallagher.

Guests have the option of reserving either a room with two doubles or one king-sized bed. All Pink Room reservations include gourmet pink cupcakes, a $20 CLEAR gift card to the hotel's cocktail and tapas lounge and a breast cancer awareness keepsake. A portion of the proceeds from each stay will benefit the ABCD organization. Based in Wisconsin, ABCD's telephone-based, free and personalized services are available to anyone, anywhere who is affected by breast cancer - patients, families and friends.

"We're really excited to support a cause that has affected not only our InterContinental Milwaukee team, but the community overall through the Pink Room project and subsequent donations to ABCD," said Geitner, InterContinental Milwaukee Executive Assistant.

The InterContinental Milwaukee is a contemporary hotel in the heart of Downtown. The property features 221 guest rooms and more than 12,000 square feet of stunning event and meeting space, restaurants and lounges.
