It is easy to dramatize the Emmy Awards, when really it is an award show to track what has taken place in the last year.
The Primetime Emmys – through two weekends of awards – attempt to recognize the best efforts in the television arts. From makeup and writing to stunt coordination and acting, the winged woman holding the atom goes to those who made their dreams come true.
The ceremony for the first round of awards, on Aug. 16, was not televised. There, many of the sound, makeup, and other behind-the-scene workers were chosen to be the best out of an outstanding field.
Tonight, viewers are treated to the second round of awards that contains categories most of us are familiar with, like the best actor and actress categories in dramas and comedies.
There may be a few Wisconsin ties in tonight’s ceremony (which was bumped to Monday to avoid a conflict with NBC’s "Sunday Night Football"), but the highest-profile connection is actor Mark Ruffalo. Ruffalo was nominated for a best actor performance in a miniseries or movie with his work on "The Normal Heart" on HBO.
You can find a complete list of nominations here.

SUNDAY MORNING: As people of different faiths traditionally spend time in worship on Saturdays and Sundays, the networks and cable television outlets know that historically the ratings on weekend mornings are usually down.
But CBS is enjoying a small bump, according to Media Bistro.
"CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood" averaged 5.3 million viewers on Sunday, up 16 percent from the same day last year, besting the weekday morning shows. Season-to-date, "Sunday Morning" is up 6 percent in viewers compared to last year.
Media is bombarding us everywhere.

The former writer, editor and producer in TV, radio, Web and newspapers, will be talking about what media does in our community and how it shapes who we are and what we do.
