Everywhere you look, it seems auto dealers are encouraging consumers to come in and take advantage of year-end sales. Prices have never been better, they boast, as they clear out the old to make room for the new.
While it is, indeed, a great time to buy a 2019, it’s also a good time to look ahead to what’s new (or what will be arriving shortly) on the showroom floor.
Here are a handful of all-new models for 2020. And by "all new," we mean nameplates that are either brand new or newly resurrected. No closeouts on these models, true. But it might be fun to be the first on your block to have one, or at least to check it out.
2020 Toyota Supra
Officially discontinued in 1998 (at least in North America), the Toyota Supra is making a comeback. This time around, it was developed in a partnership with BMW and will have some similarities with the BMW Z4.
A two-seater, the sporty Supra boasts a turbocharged 3.0L inline-six engine with plenty of power. It can reach 60 miles per hour in 4.1 seconds. Rated at 335 hp with 356 pound-feet of torque, the Supra will carry a price tag that starts just above $50,000.
2020 Jeep Gladiator
Jeep hasn’t offered a pickup truck since the Comanche was discontinued in 1992. But with the popularity of pickups today, Jeep didn’t want to miss out on all the hoopla.
The midsize Gladiator shares the Wrangler SUV’s platform and much more, including a removable top, fold-down windshield and throwback styling.
In dealerships now, prices for the Gladiator start around $34,500 and four trim options are available.
2020 Ford Bronco
Now that the Ford Ranger pickup has made a comeback, the Bronco won’t be far behind. Anticipated to be available after the first of the year, the 2020 Ford Bronco will be an intermediate-size SUV built on the Ranger platform.
The current-generation Bronco returns after 25 years, this time intended to compete with Jeep’s popular Wrangler. Like the Wrangler, it will be a capable and rugged off-roader. And like the Wrangler, the Bronco’s top can be removed.
The Bronco’s return has been much anticipated. When it arrives in 2020, prices will start in the low $30,000s.
Lincoln Aviator
With a price tag starting at more than $52,000, you can expect the new Lincoln Aviator to be cushy, comfortable and sleek. The all-new, three-row SUV will be offered with plug-in hybrid (Lincoln’s first) and gas powertrains. It will be smaller than the full-size Navigator, but larger than the two-row Nautilus.
Arriving at dealerships soon, the Aviator will have plenty of techy touches, too, including a Phone as a Key feature. A 28-speaker concert sound system from Revel also is available.
