Casablanca

Of all the Middle Eastern joints in all the towns in all the world, Milwaukee continues to walk into – and vote best in the city – Casablanca. For the sixth year in a row, the Brady Street restaurant took the crown for its casual yet elegant Mediterranean atmosphere and fine Middle Eastern cuisine.

With a massive menu ranging from hummus to falafel, shawarma to kabobs – plus steaks, salads, sandwiches, wraps and burgers and delectable desserts – the restaurant, originally opened in 1987 as "The Sahara Inn," has something fresh and authentic for everyone.

With more than the combined votes of the second- and third-place finishers, Casablanca is still clearly the undisputed king of the readers vote – and the OnMilwaukee editors agree, naming it their pick as well. Meanwhile, Hello Falafel, Falafel Guys, Shawarma House and The Halal Guys wrapped up the rest of the craveable category.

Runners up:
2. Hello Falafel
3. Falafel Guys
4. Shawarma House
5. The Halal Guys

OnMilwaukee editors' pick: Casablanca

Lori Fredrich's pick: Hello Falafel
This year, I’ve found it exceedingly tough to get enough of the offerings at Hello Falafel. I’m a sucker for the Sabih, a falafel wrap with charred eggplant, hard-cooked egg, lemon tahini, cucumber salad and zhoug, a fragrant sauce with origins in Yemen. There’s also delicious lentil soup, fattoush salad and a charred halloumi with a sweet tomato relish that’s the epitome of sweet and salty. The fresh juice combinations are top-notch as well, and healthy to boot.
