Peter Sciortino's Bakery, a Brady Street institution for decades, has little competition, according to readers, who again -- for the fourth year in a row -- voted it Milwaukee's best bakery.

With the exception of only Simma's, no other bakery came even remotely close to competition among the runners up. In addition to the vote-getters below, five percent of readers voted for a number of other bakeries in the "other" category, including Amaranth, Alterra and City Market.

The smell of fresh bread wafts out of Sciortino's Bakery every morning, reminding Milwaukee of Brady Street's Italian community. But what really tempts at Sciortino's are the cannoli and sumptuous Italian cookies, tiramisu, cakes and other pastry.
