In the rapidly growing entertainment area at the intersection of Oakland and Kensington in Shorewood, the Village Pub, 4488 N. Oakland Ave., is a mainstay. It outlasted the old Shorewood Inn, which became The Brit Inn and has been closed since May 2009 because of a fire.
But it's more than just a survivor -- it's a magnet, drawing an eclectic crowd. At Christmastime and around Thanksgiving, it's full of local college kids coming home. Packers games bring a different crowd. And there's an after-work crowd, especially in the summer when tables are set up on the sidewalk.
And OnMilwaukee.com readers again picked it as the best suburban bar. The Village Pub considered the honor big enough last year to hoist a banner announcing it.
Now they'll have to update the year to 2011.
