The Blind Horse Restaurant & Winery in Kohler is preparing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Winery, 6018 Superior Ave.

To commemorate the occasion, they will be hosting a fete-style celebration inside the winery on Saturday, April 27 from 1 to 5 p.m.  Guests are invited to indulge in a cake cutting at 1 p.m. with owners Bob and Connie Moeller, enjoy live music with Marcell Guyton from 1 to 5 p.m. and sample a variety of wines.  Door prizes will be given and food and beverages will also be available for purchase during the event.

Among the highlights of the event is the ability to sample The Blind Horse Winery’s new medium-bodied non-vintage Zinfandel, which features notes of raspberry and blackberry along with cinnamon and peppercorn on the finish.

The winery will also be releasing magnum-sized bottles (1.5 liters) of wine for the first time. Selections include 2019 Silver Saddle, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot aged in American and French oak barrels for two years; and 2019 Tuscan Blend Reserve, which has been aged for three to four years in French and American oak.

Both the new Zinfandel and magnums will be available for purchase at the winery and online starting Saturday, April 27.

New decade, new location

The winery also has its eyes on expansion. Thanks to recent legislation reforms allowing Wisconsin wineries to operate multiple locations, Blind Horse has purchased an historic building at W63 N674 Washington Ave. in Cedarburg, where it will be opening an expansive new tasting room.

With assistance from Steve Peschke of Distinctive Design Studio in Sheboygan Falls, the 1840s building, which most recently housed Elements Unleased will be transformed with an aesthetic that celebrates the building’s original design elements. There are also plans to add a patio to the property along the river.

An opening date has not yet been announced.

New winemaker

The Blind Horse has promoted longtime team member Patrick Regenwether to the role of head winemaker at The Winery. His minimalist approach relies heavily on terroir and science, with judicious intervention only when deemed necessary.

The promotion follows on the tail of the hiring of local financial expert, Chris Varah, has also been tapped to take on the role of chief financial officer for the business.

“There has yet to be a year in the winery business that hasn’t been notable for The Blind Horse and this year follows suit,” said Bob Moeller

“We celebrate a decade of winemaking and memory-making alongside our strong dedicated team of associates, friends, family, and with our local community members that have been the true reason for our success.”
