On Feb. 19, 2008, the world was introduced to Eau Claire native Justin Vernon with "For Emma, Forever Ago," his debut album with indie folk outfit Bon Iver. The record would eventually appear on Rolling Stone's 100 best albums of the 2000s, as well as Pitchfork's 200 best albums of the 2000s, turn "Skinny Love" into an acoustic night favorite and help evolve the group into two-time Grammy winners.
So that sounds like anniversary worth celebrating – and Vernon and company would seem to agree, as Bon Iver and The Pabst Theater Group today announced a special "For Emma, Ten Year" anniversary concert at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Saturday, Feb. 17.
The evening will feature a one-night-only set, including special guests like Field Report and Collections of Colonies of Bees, as well as a limited edition release of the album on CD and LP – complete with new artwork and an in-depth essay from Bon Iver friend and collaborator, Trever Hagen – at the concert's merch table. The release will also exclusively hit Bon Iver's website on Feb. 16.
"We are excited to host Bon Iver and this very special concert at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, and are thrilled that the band is coming back to Milwaukee to celebrate this truly remarkable album," said Steve Costello, BMO Harris Bradley Center President and CEO, in a press release.
"Since the very first Bon Iver show on the 'For Emma, Forever Ago' tour at The Pabst Theater in 2008, we knew there was a special magic and importance to this artist unlike anything we had ever seen," said Matt Beringer, COO of the Pabst Theater Group, in the release. "We’re proud to present 'For Emma, Ten Year,' a completely unique opportunity to celebrate one of the most significant albums in recent history with one of the finest artists of his era."
Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m., via Ticketmaster's website, the Ticketmaster phone line at (800) 745-3000 and in persona at the BMO Harris Bradley Center box office. However, there will also be a presale for those registered with a fan club account at Bon Iver's website, with tickets going on sale with a special code beginning Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. There is a four-ticket limit.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
