Broad Vocabulary, an independent bookshop at 2241 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. in Bay View, will close at the end of this month. Earlier this year, a Schwartz Bookshop location across the street also closed.

"There is still the possibility that someone will take over the store and reopen it, but Tina and I know, for a variety of reasons both economic and personal, that we can't keep the doors open any longer than Nov. 30," says co-owner Jennifer Morales.

Starting Saturday, Nov. 15, Broad Vocabulary will have a liquidation sale, with 40 percent off books and merchandise. The new hours until the closing day are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 2 to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"It's a great loss to Milwaukee, to the South Side, and to us personally," says Morales. "We hope something even better will take its place, but whatever that may be, it will not flourish without your constant and devoted support -- and that means putting your money where your heart is."

Broad Vocabulary’s phone number is (414) 744-8384.
