There are some unique holiday events happening the next couple of weeks at Broad Vocabulary bookshop. Here’s a list of ‘em:

Broad Vocabulary Book Exchange
Saturday, Dec. 8, 1-5 p.m.
Bring in your gently used feminist, radical, DIY, fiction and children’s books. Every one they accept gets you a 25-cent store credit, up to $20 total! Use the credit to buy great books for yourself or others.

Feminist Potluck
Sunday, Dec. 9, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Bring a dish and dish up your best feminist thinking. All ages and genders are welcome. Make some new friends while enjoying great food and fun discussion about the topics of the day.

Scrabble Night
Tuesday, Dec. 11, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Join BV owners Tina and Jennifer for their monthly night of Scrabble. Drop into a game at your level -- beginner to advanced -- and pick up some pointers from the resident Scrabble expert, Lesley Salas. Contact Lesley for more information (lesleysalas@yahoo.com), or just come on by.

The Defenders: Movie and Discussion
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 7 p.m.
Join the broads for a screening of “The Defenders,” Emily Rumsey and Dawnee Dodson’s 26-minute film about Planned Parenthood and the fight for access to birth control in Wisconsin. A talkback with representatives from PPWI and refreshments will follow. The history of birth control is still being written, and the new chapters seem to be going backwards, not forward

Nancy Drew Party
Friday, Dec. 14, 7 p.m.
Attention, Nancy Drew-worshippers (you know who you are …): Children of all ages are invited to watch the Nancy Drew movie in our gallery while enjoying some free snacks. You’ll need to join the movie club for $1, payable at the door.

Femiknits!
Sunday, Dec. 16, 2 p.m.
Drop in for the feminist knitting/crocheting group. Bring your own materials. All genders and skill levels are welcome and it’s free.

Egg Nog and Gift Wrapping Extravaganza
Saturday, Dec. 22, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Stop by for 12 beautiful hours of egg nog and ribbon, so you can really tie one on. Do you have gifts that you need to wrap but are worried that that special recipient might see? Bring them to Broad Vocabulary and wrap away. You can bring your own materials or you can buy some of their recycled gift wrap (hard-to-find, 100 percent post-consumer-waste paper printed with soy ink) and cotton ribbon. When you buy our gift wrap, they’ll wrap for you at no extra charge.

Procrastinator’s Sale
Sunday, Dec. 23, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 24, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Did the holidays sneak up on you once again? It happens to the best of us. Don't fret. Broad Vocabulary has deals on perfect gifts for all of the fabulous feminists, smart babies and radical thinkers in your life.
