I was recently reminded that "cash is king" at a number of local businesses, including some I visit frequently.

Molly wrote this story on "cash only" businesses last year that discussed why some may not take your plastic, and I fully understand why a business may choose to stay "cash only." However, I’m still slightly annoyed when I encounter one that I may have forgotten about, so that is where this list may come up handy.

Be sure to add any I may have missed below in the talkbacks, or chime in via social media and I will update the list. Here are seven places that take cash only:

  1. The Soup House
    324 E. Michigan St.,
    (414) 277-7687
One of my favorites for lunch, The Soup House offers a bunch of different soups daily, along with a chunk of delicious bread.
  2. Lalli’s Pizza
    8826 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa, (414) 774-9838
This classic Tosa pizzera is right next to Club Tap, so you can wait for your pizza next door with a tap of beer.
  3. Oakland Gyros
    2867 N. Oakland Ave., (414) 963-1393
This "after bar" pick is cash-only after midnight. Hopefully, you have some moolah left after your night out.
  4. Stonefly Brewery
    755 E. Center St., (414) 212-8910
Riverwest staple Stonefly Brewery went cash-only a few years back. A great live music venue, as well a popular brunch spot for locals.
  5. Jamo’s
    1800 E. Arlington Pl., (414) 276-7101
Oh, Jamo’s. This corner tap meets lounge may conjure another time or era, where cash really was king. However, the great cocktails and Delirium on tap are worth making sure you have some cash on you.
  6. John’s Sandwich Shop
    8913 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa, (414) 257-9347
John’s focuses on fresh and healthy options, and delicious ones at that. Grab a seat at the counter and order a malt while you're at it. This cash-only spot doesn’t have an ATM, so you can’t even pay a ridiculous $5 fee to get your own money to pay on-site.
  7. Three Brothers
    2414 S. St. Clair St., Milwaukee(414) 481-7530
This Serbian gem is worth keeping cash in your wallet for. Get the goulash!

Carolynn Buser is one of Milwaukee's loudest and most adamant cheerleaders (don't dare try to disagree). She's the primary voice behind much of OnMilwaukee's social media and content direction, and apologizes in advance if she can be too sarcastic at times.

What else? She's a wine lover, closet trashy novel reader, beauty supplies addict and devourer of cheese (shocker for a Wisconsin born and bred girl, right?). She's also a bit of a foodie, which is a word most of you hate, we know. She works as hard as she plays - and that includes in the gym! So, you've probably seen her at one of the area's newest restaurant openings (and yes, she will share her opinions good or bad) or enjoying a cold one at a local pub.

All in all, Carolynn's a believer in positive thinking and will do her best to smack down your negative ones while writing about her city, her loves, quests and more.
