The Jewish Museum Milwaukee, 1360 N. Prospect Ave., announced Wednesday that due to "overwhelming public interest" it will extend its "Choices of Consequence: Denmark and the Holocaust" exhibit through Sept. 7.
The show, which was slated to end on May 25, traces the courageous efforts of the Danish people that saved about 95 percent of Denmark’s Jewish population from Nazi persecution and the Holocaust.
“This story reminds us that even in the darkest times, individuals and communities can act with moral clarity,” said Chief Curator Molly Dubin. “It’s a story that continues to inspire and we’re proud to share with even more visitors this summer.”
The exhibit uses personal narratives, historical artifacts and Judy Glickna Lauder's photo series "Resistance and Rescue: Denmark’s Response to the Holocaust" to commemmorate, "the acts of courage demonstrated while the small Danish nation was under German occupation," which, the museum says, was, "unparalleled in the history of World War II."
Extending the exhibition will allow for more schools visits, tours and public programming. Educational efforts will continue in partnership with the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center.
