Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, County Supervisor Peggy Romo-West and other officials will unveil the the new "green" entrance to the Mitchell Park Domes in a ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.

The date marks the 46th anniversary of Lady Bird Johnson's dedication of the Show Dome.

"With much anticipation, we are happy to introduce the new entry to the Mitchell Park Domes, and are proud of its innovative, green features that move our county closer to environmental sustainability," said Abele in a statement.

"The Domes are a beloved part of Milwaukee County and the entire state. We are proud of our stewardship of preserving natural landscapes and history."

The new entrance includes a number of artistic light features, fountains with lighting and spray-water features, 526 plants, 6,940 square feet of new concrete, 975 square feet of sundial with 33 cast bronze inlays, and a storm water terrace.

The 9,800-square foot terrace serves as a rainfall and roof run-off infiltration area to capture and re-use storm water, and serve as a multi-purpose venue for outside events. The storage area can accommodate up to two inches of rainfall.

The Domes Entry Project began October 2010, and was completed August 2011.
