On May 1, Boat MKE – the same folks who offer the Paddle Tavern – opens for business on the Milwaukee River, 735 N. Water St. And this year, the local company is offering another way to float: donut boats and retro boats.

Donut Boats are circular, electric vessels that feature a cooler with ice for beverages and are recommended for celebratory events like bachelorette bashes, birthday parties and staff outings. Boaters can connect their phones to speakers and play music of their choice.

Retro Boats will also crest the waters this season. The 1950s-style, restored boats are equipped with eco-friendly, noiseless electric motors and vary in layout, including one with a cuddy-cabin named Shirley and another with a runabout named Laverne.
