"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including guides, unique features, drink recipes and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!

I was in the mood to go out the other night, but since it was kind of late and ridiculously cold, I didn't want to travel particularly far. Thankfully, I live in the city's second best bar district as recently voted by the readers of OnMilwaukee.com, so I had options.

I walked the two blocks to M's, 1101 S. 2nd St., and was pleasantly greeted by a warm, cozy, low-lit setting that was a perfect escape from the chilly sidewalk.

M's is a great place and although it's absolutely huge -- it is in the original Jacques Café spot with a spacious back room -- it still feels intimate and comfortable. There was next to no one there, although it looked a though it was expecting someone.

The entire bar was decked out in sparkly scarlet paper hearts hung artistically from the ceiling, complete with red lasers spiraling wildly in pretty patterns on the wall. M's was in the mood for love.

And have to admit, the décor made me want to check out its special Valentine's Day drink menu, which included one very tempting chocolate-flavored tequila martini. I had never heard of such a thing; I had to order it.

The bartender concocted decadent and very potent mixture of the chocolate tequila, white crème de cacao and some raspberry liquor -- there may have been other ingredients that I'm now forgetting -- and the $10 affair was worth every penny.

It got me thinking about other romantically fused drinks that might be fun for Valentine's Day. Sure, there are the classics varieties of French red wine or bottles of bubbly, but let's get more creative than that.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
