Starting Monday, Sept. 7, you can fulfill your taco cravings at Three Lions Pub, 4515 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood. That’s thanks to a new pop-up ghost kitchen called Flaco’s Tacos, which will offer a menu of tacos, burritos and more for pick-up or delivery.
The concept was inspired by Chef Flaco, a native of Mexico, who has been a chef with the Lions Hospitality Group since 2014. Over the years, his "off the menu" Mexican dishes have become a popular treat for Three Lions staff, inspiring the idea for a Mexican-themed pop-up.
On the menu
The menu, which is available for carry-out and delivery only, features both a la carte tacos and taco combos (two tacos plus rice and beans for $10 and three tacos with sides for $14) with fillings including Caribbean cod, traditional carnitas, carnitas grande, fire roasted chicken, sweet chili chicken and vegetarian.
Burritos are also available with fillings including refried beans, cilantro and a choice of carnitas grande ($11.25), fire roasted chicken ($11.75) and vegetarian ($10.75), along with grilled chicken quesadillas ($9.99) and nachos ($9 or $4 with chicken or carnitas).
Family taco platters include a choice of up to three traditional street tacos (carnitas, chicken or steak), a choice of two sides Mexican rice, cilantro lime rice, refried beans or black beans) and a choice of tortillas. Meals come with salsa, sour cream and guacamole for $50 (includes 18 tacos).
Why a ghost kitchen?
Since purchasing the building in which Three Lions Pub is housed in early 2020, owners David Price and Chris Tinker note that they have renewed their investment in the service industry and community, moving them to adapt as best they can to the conditions that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented.
"The community in the area continues to support us with ‘to go’ orders, yet we know that this limits their cuisine options. Accordingly, we wanted to bring some more offerings to the community for those supporting local businesses, but are still not one hundred percent comfortable entering establishments," notes Price.
"We have employed chefs and cooks from all over the U.S., U.K., Europe and Mexico. As a result, we have some wonderful chefs trained in Mexican cuisine who can help enhance our business at this time by giving the North Shore Community a culinary offering that they have craved for a long time...Mexican Food."
Flacos Tacos will be available (along with the regular Three Lions Pub menu) for carry-out or delivery Sunday through Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. Visit threelionspub.com to place your order.
While the full Flaco’s Tacos menu is only available online, Three Lions Pub customers can enjoy special $3 tacos from 8 to 10 p.m. daily.
