To better convey the diversity of its mission, Friedens Food Pantries has rebranded.

Now called Nourish Milwaukee (NourishMKE), the non-profit’s new name more aptly describes the services it provides to over 50,000 individuals in the Milwaukee area through four neighborhood locations on Vliet Street, Fond du Lac Avenue, Orchard Street, and Mitchell Boulevard.

“At NourishMKE, we create spaces that foster opportunities to transform lives, where everyone can access nourishing food and experience supportive personal connections and community,” notes NourishMKE Interim Executive Director Valerie MacMillan. “Our community is able to select free, quality food with dignity, while sharing relationships and experiences that support wellbeing in all areas of life.”

“It is truly inspiring to witness how food and personal connection transform lives for those who walk through our doors, whether it be a family shopping for groceries or one of the 2,000 volunteers who support our mission. We meet people where they are at NourishMKE, and when we join together, we are all collectively nourished and help each other grow.”

Lori is an avid cook whose accrual of condiments and spices is rivaled only by her cookbook collection. Her passion for the culinary industry was birthed while balancing A&W root beer mugs as a teenage carhop, fed by insatiable curiosity and fueled by the people whose stories entwine with each and every dish. She’s had the privilege of chronicling these tales via numerous media, including OnMilwaukee and in her book “Milwaukee Food.” Her work has garnered journalism awards from entities including the Milwaukee Press Club.

When she’s not eating, photographing food, writing or recording the FoodCrush podcast, you’ll find Lori seeking out adventures with her husband Paul, traveling, cooking, reading, learning, snuggling with her cats and looking for ways to make a difference.
