Female grillers are some of the most passionate and talented when it comes to weilding a tongs over an open flame.

Female grillers are some of the most passionate and talented when it comes to wielding a tongs over an open flame. OnMilwaukee and On The Rocks ready-to-pour cocktails teamed up and  tracked down a half dozen local gal grillmasters. Grab your own OTR from a local store and get grilling! According to popular market research company NPD Group, only 19 percent of American women in heterosexual relationships assume grilling duties during a barbeque. These statistics have remained the same for at least 30 years.

Dubbed "the one and only male-dominated appliance in America," the grill is seen by many cisgender men as a socially-acceptable place to wear an apron. But despite the uneven ratio, female grillers are some of the most passionate and talented when it comes to wielding tongs over an open flame.

OnMilwaukee and On The Rocks ready-to-pour cocktails teamed up and tracked down local gal grillmasters. Each participating woman picked what they wanted to grill, where they wanted to buy their grillables, how they wanted to grill and the perfect OTR cocktail to accompany the process.

This is the second episode of  "Girls Who Grill," and Bay View's Lara Seeby shows us how to masterfully grill New York Strip with a coffee/chipotle rub and topped with chimichurri.

Gas or charcoal: I am more comfortable grilling on gas because it's easy to control the temperature.

What you're grilling: Medium rare New York Strip steak and broccolini.

Who taught you to grill: My mom. She was the main cook in our family and she really liked grilling. In summer it was her main tool to cook with and she grilled a lot.

Grilling advice she gave you: Don't be afraid to experiment, to play around with different spices and cuisines. And if it fails, it’s alright.

One grilling tip for steak: Start out by putting them in direct heat for a hard seer and then move them to indirect heat. Also, remember it keeps cooking after you pull it off the grill. I let my steak rest for about 15 minutes.

Ingredients for the rub: Ground coffee, cayenne pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, brown sugar, salt and pepper.

The steak topping: Chimichurri sauce – Italian parsley, garlic, oregano, olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper. It's a nice little hit of acid for a fatty steak and one of my favorite steak toppers.

OTR cocktail paired with meal: Daiquiri.
