Rockers Green Day are set to play at Am Fam Field Saturday with The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas, but the band arrived in Brew City a little early.
Lakefront's own resident punk rock musician and aficionado Andy Junk (aka the brewery's Export Manager Andy Jungwirth) posted the above photo with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong on Facebook.
"I was on my way out the door at Lakefront and some coworkers flagged me down and were like, Is that Green Day?'," Jungwirth posted, noting that the band was enjoying the beer hall's beloved fish fry, a little after 5 p.m. Friday, at the brewery, 1872 N. Commerce St.
"I immediately went into the fact that I flew to Berkeley to see a Pinhead Gunpowder reunion show (referring to a band Armstrong is in). He asked 'At Gilman Street?' and I said 'No, at Starry Plough in 2000.' and just left him alone to enjoy dinner."
The band's drummer Tre Cool arrived a few minutes later, according to Jungwirth.
Armstrong also shared photos of a visit to the Bronz Fonz on his Instagram page...
Armstrong and company play at the stadium today as part of Green Day's The Saviors Tour, during which the trio will play "American Idiot" and "Dookie" in their entirety.
Showtime is 5:30 p.m.
