There's never a shortage of new people, events, decisions and ideas in Milwaukee, some moving the city forward and some holding it back. In this subjective and light-hearted article, we take Milwaukee's temperature for at the start of September 2009.
Please share your thoughts using the Talkback feature below.
Sizzling: Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder -- His production has been bright spot in a disappointing season.
Local Eating -- Take the Eat Local Milwaukee Challenge during the first two weeks of September.
Packers tight end Jermichael Finley -- Starting to play like a stud.
Tickets to Packers-Vikings games Oct. 5 in
Minnesota and Nov. 1 in Green Bay -- If you don't have them yet, be
ready to spend big $$$.
Hot: Mayor Tom Barrett -- Kicking ass and taking names. Street food carts -- We've got pizza, gyros, crepes, pitas, hot dogs and more. Take your hunger to the streets!
Aaron Rodgers jerseys -- They're the top seller at Green Bay outlets.
Milwaukee Film -- The 2009 Milwaukee Film Festival starts Sept. 24. The line-up arrives next week.
Warm: Smoking ban -- We're under a year and counting until July 2010. David Cross --"I Drink For A Reason" is out and Cross will be here Oct. 3 to promote it. Bon Iver -- Your home state loves you, but "For Emma" is really starting to feel like "Forever Ago." Hope we hear some new stuff come Oct. 11. Cool: Paying for wine at Jazz in the Park -- But, to be fair, the prices are pretty reasonable.
Brewers GM Doug Melvin -- Misjudged his pitching staff in December and never recovered.
Staycations -- They're on the way out. OnMilwaukee.com's Recession Buster Getaways are in. Cold: Swine Flu -- Apparently it's still out there doing its damage, but at least it's sans the bloated hype. Summer 2009 -- We never really put our hoodies away for the season.
Brewers manager Ken Macha -- An ugly final month could mean one and done for this skipper.
Sub-zero: Brett Favre and the Vikings -- Legacy = tarnished. |
