Because it’s Hotel Week on OnMilwaukee.com this week, I thought I’d revisit some of my favorite hotel-related stories from the past couple of years.
Nearest and dearest to my heart is my 2012 visit to Sybaris. (No, I did not go alone, that would be just plain sad.) Turns out, Sybaris was much cleaner – and more humid and mauve – than expected, but all in all, I (ahem, we) had a very memorable time. Even though the pool in our room was sans slide, I really wanted to relive that commercial. You know which one I'm talking about.
I also had the opportunity to stay at the beautiful, renovated Ambassador Hotel. No, I did not stay in the "Dahmer room" (which doesn't exist anymore) nor did I sense any restless spirits. I did, however, have a really good Bloody Mary at Envoy, the bar in the lobby of the hotel.
Recently, I spent the night at the extremely cool Brewhouse Inn Suites. If you ever want to take a snooze in a former brewery turned upscale hotel, this is your place.
As for more kid-friendly overnight experiences, we had a tree-mendous time staying in the "tree houses" in the Dells last summer. Our only complaint was when we had to walk down a ladder and across a parking lot to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, but hey, we aren’t dogs so peeing on or near trees should never be an expectation.
Next month, I am attending a sleepover at the Milwaukee Public Museum with my family as part of the museum's overnight program. I am really looking forward to this – as long as the creepy "grandma" from the Streets of Old Milwaukee doesn't kill me in my sleep.
