Today, Cecilia Gilbert, permits and communications manager for the Department of Public Works, told OnMilwaukee.com that there's a Humboldt Bridge ribbon cutting and celebration scheduled for June 30 from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Humboldt Avenue Bridge project, which started in October 2008, consisted of building a bridge over the Milwaukee River, a bridge over Riverboat Road, a ramp providing access to Riverboat Road, six adjacent retaining walls, pavement approaches and utility alterations.

The entire project had an original completion date of November 2009 and a budget of $9 million.

If you want to be one of the first over the bridge, Gilbert noted that the ribbon cutting ceremony starts at 4:50 p.m. with the ribbon cutting at 5 p.m.
