The Milwaukee Brewers today named Johnny Narron hitting coach. Narron replaces Dale Sveum, who was named manager of the Chicago Cubs on Nov. 18. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin.

"Johnny comes highly recommended by a number of experienced uniformed Major League personnel around baseball," said Melvin. "He has been an instrumental part of a very productive offensive ball club in Texas over the last four seasons. He is a hard-working individual who comes to the ballpark with a well-prepared plan each day."

Narron joins the Brewers after spending four seasons on the Major League coaching staff of the Texas Rangers. He began his tenure in Texas as Major League Special Assignment Coach in 2008, and held that title until being named Major League Assistant Hitting Coach last season.

Narron is returning for his second stint in the Brewers organization, his first at the Major League level. He served as the hitting coach at Rookie Helena in 2003 and 2006, and managed there in 2004. He also spent the 2005 season as the hitting coach at Class-A Brevard County and Class-A West Virginia.

Narron, 60, is the older brother of Brewers bench coach Jerry Narron. He played collegiately at East Carolina University and professionally from 1974-75 as a first baseman in the farm systems of the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
