Lakefront Brewery has been named one of the 10 best farm-to-pint breweries in America by FarmFlavor.com, a national website that highlights food’s journey from the farm to the kitchen.

Lakefront came in third on the list, with Louisiana’s Abita Brewing Co. nabbing the top spot and Fullsteam Brewery in Durham, N.C., coming in second.

The editors looked at breweries with a commitment to using the best local ingredients for their beers while also supporting their local agriculture industry.

"You won’t get very far in today’s agriculture world without hearing the term ‘farm-to-fork’ because eating local has become an important part of both the local restaurant scene as well as the local economy," says Rachel Bertone, FarmFlavor.com spokesperson. "We took this concept a step further by looking at breweries and eateries that encourage patrons to ‘drink local’ as well."

Since 2005, Lakefront has been working with local farmers, encouraging them to grow barley and hops.

Lakefront’s two signature beers Local Acre, which was the first beer made with 100 percent Wisconsin-grown hops and malt since before Prohibition, and Wisconsinite, which also uses local yeast, are representations of the brewery’s local mission.
