Several sources have confirmed that Admirals head coach Lane Lambert is leaving the team to accept a head coaching position with parent club Nashville.
The team announced a 1 p.m. press conference for tomorrow during which the news is expected to become official.
The 46-year-old Lambert came to Milwaukee in 2006 as an assistant to head coach Claude Noel. When Noel moved on to the NHL, Lambert was promoted and in his four seasons, Milwaukee went 178-103-39 with two West Division championships.
In Nashville, Lambert would replace Brent Peterson, who stepped down after last season to battle Parkinson's disease. Peterson and head coach Barry Trotz had been behind the bench together since 1998, the Predators' first season in the NHL.
A Lambert promotion makes sense. Nashville has built its franchise through the draft and a majority of the current squad spent significant time in Milwaukee and many of the top young players there played for Lambert with the Admirals.
