(UPDATED: 7:30 p.m.) Looking to get players on base for Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder, the Brewers Sunday acquired second baseman Felipe Lopez from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The switch-hitting Lopez was hitting .305 heading into play Sunday with six home runs, 25 RBI and six stolen bases in 84 games with Arizona. Leading off for the Diamondbacks, Lopez's .372 on-base percentage was second-most among National League leadoff men.
"Felipe is an accomplished veteran player who gives us versatility at three infield positions," said general manager Doug Melvin Sunday evening in a statement released by the team. "He has been a very productive player at the top of the order with respect to both batting average and on-base percentage."
Lopez, 29, will be a free agent in the off-season and owns a career batting average of .266 with 77 homers, 359 RBI and 115 stolen bases. Milwaukee will be his fifth major league stop.
He comes to Milwaukee in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers, outfielder Cole Gillespe and right-handed pitcher Roque Mercedes.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Sunday night that Mat Gamel will be sent down to Nashville in order to make room for Lopez on the roster.
With the Sounds, Gamel will again get the chance to play every day as Casey McGehee has emerged as a viable third basemen at the major league level. Gamel saw action in 48 games, hitting .239 with four home runs and 16 RBI.
Lopez will join the team tomorrow in Pittsburgh.
