A brave community advocate, a post-apocalyptic kid hero in a world gone mad and two guys fighting over a severed foot. That's what's on deck in Day 7's edition of Three to see.

"Dreamcatcher"

Brenda Myers-Powell spent 25 years working as a drug-fueled prostitute; now she's working to help get others stuck in similar situations off the streets and healthy. It's an amazing story, and director Kim Longinotto is one of the best in the documentary business, so it's in good hands. Plus, Myers-Powell is expected to be in attendance, so there could be a powerful post-film Q&A to go with the powerful film itself.

"Dreamcatcher" shows today at 1 p.m. at the Times Cinema, as well as Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4:15 p.m. at the Avalon Theater.

"Turbo Kid"

I'm normally fairly wary of these kind nostalgia-baiting entertainments, but "Turbo Kid" doesn't look like it's relying solely on old school references for fun. No, this Cinema Hooligante pick seems like it's fueled by more than just retro callbacks – a little bit of post-apocalyptic mayhem here, a little touch of gory grindhouse there. It seems like just the right kind of midnight movie that Cinema Hooligante thrives on (except tonight, it's showing at 7 p.m.) Also, fair warning: The below trailer is bloody as hell.

"Turbo Kid" screens tonight at 7 p.m. at the Times Cinema, as well as on Friday, Oct. 2 at midnight at the Oriental Theatre.

"Finders Keepers"

They often say truth is stranger than fiction, and in the case of "Finders Keepers," they're totally right. Two North Carolina gentlemen get involved in a public battle over possession of a severed leg. The one who actually lost the leg wants it back, while the one who found it – in a smoker, naturally – wants to keep it and use it to become famous. It's the kind of story you couldn't make up if you wanted to. It's also the kind of story that could only be settled by one man: Judge Mathis, obviously. Yet despite all of the "f***ery and shenanigans," there's a real tender heart to this story of a mummified leg. Laughs, tears and legal excitement? Well that's just a win-win-win, and you know what they say about win-win-winning ...

"Finders Keepers" plays today at 1 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre, as well as Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Avalon Theater.

Matt Mueller Culture Editor

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
