October may be the month of Halloween, but Netflix's freshly announced lineup of new additions is nothing to be scared of (as opposed to the horrifying list of movies and especially TV shows leaving the streaming service next month).

While the new horror offerings are sparse – at least there's the indie coming-of-age cannibalism gross-out "Raw" and the seventh Chucky movie (yes, seven) – there's plenty of laughs to be found, including hits like "Miss Congeniality," "I Love You, Man" and "Tommy Boy." Plus, some of your favorite indie directors and famous great auteurs are popping up on Netflix next month, from Richard Linklater (the beautiful "Before Midnight") to Paul Thomas Anderson (his beloved breakthrough "Boogie Nights") to the latest from Quentin Tarantino ("The Hateful Eight") and the last from Stanley Kubrick ("Eyes Wide Shut").

But the real story in October is the Netflix Originals, which include David Fincher's creepy serial killer procedural show "Mindhunter" and the much-anticipated second season of "Stranger Things" – both just in time for Halloween. And speaking of strange things, Adam Sandler is in a new movie ... actually acting? And it looks good? From critically acclaimed director Noah Baumbach ("Frances Ha" and fellow new October addition "While We're Young")?

Huh. Well, I supposed oddness is in the air this time of year. Here's the rest of everything new coming to Netflix next month.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
