There's a lot coming to Netflix in April – but perhaps the biggest arrival isn't an actual new TV show or movie. And it's not even new.
After seeing shows like "Succession" and "WandaVision" build buzz and viewers week after week instead of peaking and disappearing from public consciousness in about three days, Netflix is trying out a bold new television release strategy: the old television release strategy. Yes, for two of its big buzzy reality shows – "The Circle," debuting in April, and "Too Hot To Handle" – instead of releasing the competitions in one big binge as is Netflix's tradition, the Big Red Streaming Monolith will release the programs across four weeks, four episodes at a time. That way, instead of owning one weekend of cultural conversation and ratings, Netflix can own a whole month of buzz and discussion, building viewers week after week instead of going big in one weekend and then becoming old news the next.
Weird, it's almost as though television figured that out decades ago ... anyways, REVOLUTIONARY!
While Netflix invents the future of entertainment by coming up with strategies from 50 years ago, the streaming service will also shower audiences with new movies and TV shows like an April rainstorm next month. As for licensed stuff, you'll have horror favorites ("Insidious," "Leprechaun," "Crimson Peak"), comedy icons ("Legally Blonde"), critical gems ("The Pianist," "The Master," "Rush") and more to keep you amused on those drizzly spring days. And as for originals, in addition to more of "The Circle" – arguably the best of Netflix's reality bunch from the past year – there's the intriguing new indie drama "Concrete Cowboy," the superhero comedy "Thunder Force," a wild new animated movie from Lord & Miller (the guys behind "The LEGO Movie"), the hotly anticipated fantasy series "Shadow and Bone," and almost certainly a whole bunch of true crime docs.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
