No, those electronic billboards quietly popping up around town with Paul McCartney's name and the name of his tour weren't some cruel, late April Fools gag on Milwaukee.
Indeed, Summerfest confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the former Beatle and all-time rock 'n' rock great will return to town this summer, bringing his "One on One" tour to the Marcus Amphitheater on Friday, June 8.
McCartney last came to Milwaukee back in 2013, performing at a capacity-filled Miller Park almost 50 years after he and The Beatles made their Cream City debut at the Arena. In his review of the show, Bobby Tanzilo described the show as "an explosion of Fab Four nostalgia."
His new tour and setlist is also expected to feature his work as a Beatle, along with a mix of material from the rest of his career with Wings and as a solo artist.
Tickets for Paul McCartney at Summerfest will go on sale starting Friday, April 15 at 10 a.m. As always, tickets include general Summerfest admission. They can be purchased at the Summerfest box office, Ticketmaster ticket centers and Walmart stores, as well as online at Ticketmaster.com and over the phone either through the Summerfest box office (1-414-273-2600), through a live Ticketmaster agent (1-800-745-3000) or through Ticketmaster's automated ticket line (1-866-448-7849).
There will also be several presale opportunities. As usual, there will be a Summerfest Stay Connected presale for those who subscribe for Summerfest email news alerts. The presale will run from 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 14 through 10 p.m. or until the presale inventory has run out.
In addition, there will be a SLO presale hosted by Paul McCartney's website starting Monday, April 11 at 10 a.m. and running through Thursday, April 14 at 10 p.m., as well as an American Express card members presale beginning Tuesday, April 12 at 10 a.m. and running through Thursday April 14 at 10 p.m.
Today's Summerfest announcement leaves only two more remaining Marcus Amphitheater headliners – one on June 30 and the other on July 5 – left to reveal. Keep guessing – and stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for those announcements as they come.
