After a two-year hiatus because of you-know-what, the Wisconsin Humane Society’s annual Pet Walk fundraiser along Milwaukee's lakefront returns Saturday, June 18. The fun will take place at Veterans Park.

Pet loving-participants can choose between a 5K run or a 1-mile walk. Individuals or teams are invited to register. Dogs are welcome, of course, but not required.

The registration tent opens at 8 a.m. After the run / walk, there will be lure coursing for the pups, a doggie costume contest and other dog games. Local vendors, a beer and beverage tent, live music and food trucks will also be on site.

All proceeds benefit local animals and families served by the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS), the largest and oldest animal shelter in the state.

"Summer is the busiest season for WHS, and thousands of animals are expected to flood through our doors this summer. Proceeds from Pet Walk support the medical and sheltering costs of animals in need, and truly make a difference in the lives of pets and the people who love them," says Angela Speed, Vice President of Communications for the Wisconsin Humane Society.
