Are you aware? Is this thing on?

If you weren't aware, Milwaukee filmmakers Sam Macon and Dan Ollman have been quietly working on a documentary about seminal homegrown band The Promise Ring, who toured nationally and internationally from 1995 - 2002. The band has become revered as one of the pioneers of Midwest emo, and their 1997 album "Nothing Feels Good" was hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the top three emo albums of all time. On Tuesday, one of the filmmakers posted a call for submissions on Reddit:

I am currently working on a feature-length documentary film about The Promise Ring, and we are putting out the call for any and all archival materials - video, film, photos, news clippings, flyers, show posters, fan art, stories, any and all ephemera - regarding not just The Promise Ring but that beautiful late mid-90s to early 2000s era of emo/indie/punk/etc. Feel free to reach out via our website!

The film has been in the beginning stages of production for close to a year now, but Tuesday's developments also included a co-sign from the band's official Instagram account. Filming for interviews is currently slated to run though the fall, with no official public timeline for release.

This is where you come in! If you have any old footage or memories to share, Milwaukeeans are invited to send their submissions to Macon and Ollman here. While we wait for more developments about the documentary, check out this radio session with "New Rock 102.1" from 1997:
